Dataforth SCM5B48 accelerometer signal conditioning module provides excitation to piezoelectric sensors with built-in microelectronic amplifiers, commonly known as ICP or IEPE or LIVM sensors. The module provides a constant current excitation to the sensor, then isolates, filters, and amplifies the sensor output, yielding a high-level analogue voltage output. Input ranges are ±10mV whilst output ranges are ±5V or ±10V. To ensure protection of expensive data acquisition equipment, the SCM5B48 module signal inputs and sensor excitation outputs are protected against accidental connection of voltages up to 240Vrms.
On our configurable accelerometer signal conditioners the excitation current, signal gain, high-pass filter and low-pass cut-off frequencies are field-configurable through a set of slide switches. Dataforth can also manufacture the SCM5B48 with fixed parameters. A constant current source for sensor excitation can be set to 4mA or 9mA with a compliance voltage of 24V DC.
The SCM5B48 accelerometer signal conditioning module guarantees the highest level of accuracy and noise immunity in your measured signals. Signal filtering is accomplished with a six-pole filter which provides 100dB of normal-mode rejection for signals above the cut-off frequency. One pole of filtering is on the field side of the isolation barrier for anti-aliasing purposes and the remaining five-pole programmable Bessel filter is located on the system side. High-pass filtering is achieved through a second order passive filter, located on the field side. If desired, the output switch can be turned on continuously by simply connecting pin 22, the Read-Enable pin, to I/O Common, pin 19.
Circuit boards are potted within a rugged, compact and industry standard 5B package measuring just 58mm (H) x 57mm (W) x 15mm (D), making it ideal for applications where space needs to be considered. Identical gold-plated pin-outs are used to ensure a reliable connection. With a wide operating temperature of -40°c to +85°c and are also suitable for use in locations where there is presence of a flammable element such as vapours, gases or dust with being ATEX compliance pending. Other certifications include CE and CSA. The SCM5B48 accelerometer signal conditioning module goes through a 48-hour burn-in operation and is tested twice whereby test results are uploaded to the website and can be found via searching the unique serial number.
The SCM5B48 accelerometer signal conditioning module can be mounted on single-channel, dual-channel, 8-channel and 16-channel back panels which are available with panel, DIN rail or 19” rack mounting options. Each SCM5B back panel incorporates screw terminals for field wiring inputs or outputs and may include on-board temperature sensors for cold-junction compensation. A regulated supply of +5V DC is required for power and each module consumes 110mA with 9mA excitation to the sensor or 70mA with 4mA excitation to the sensor.
