The LNFR-27G is an ultra-low noise frequency reference that synthesizes outputs at 2.0 GHz, 5.1 GHz, 8.1 GHz, 20.0 GHz and 27.2 GHz from a 100 MHz low noise input reference. An ultra low noise 100 MHz reference such as the SpectraDynamics model LNFR-100 is required to be able to achieve the performance listed in the specifications. If an LNFR-100 is not available, the 100 MHz input reference must meet the specifications listed in the table on page 7 of the user’s manual. The 100 MHz signal must be connected to the input SMA connector labeled 100 MHz IN on the LNFR-27G front panel. This 100 MHz signal is internally buffered and distributed to the synthesizer modules in the instrument.
The LNFR-27G contains five synthesizer modules, one at each output frequency. Each module contains a dielectric resonator oscillator that is phase locked through a synthesis chain to the internally distributed 100 MHz reference signal. All synthesis modules have a lock indicator that is routed to an LED indicator on the front panel. The instrument is offered in a stand-alone rack-mount enclosure with dimensions of 2U X 19” X 16”.
