8B34 linearized 2- or 3-wire RTD input signal conditioners are designed for embedded applications to protect equipment in both the field and control room from power surges whilst reducing electrical noise in measured signals. RTD excitation is provided from the module using two matched current sources. When using a 3-wire connection, this method allows equal currents to flow through the sensor leads, cancelling the effects of lead resistances. The excitation currents are 0.25mA which minimizes self-heating of the RTD. A three-pole filter on the 8B34 linearized 2- or 3-wire RTD input signal conditioner provides signal filtering with 70dB of NMR (Normal-mode-rejection) at 60Hz, one pole of this filter is located on the field side of the isolation barrier for anti-aliasing and the other two poles are located on the system side. 8B34 linearized 2- or 3-wire RTD input signal conditioners also guarantee a high-level of reliability and long term stability with field I/O being protected against continuous voltages up to 240V AC, as defined by the ANSI/IEEE C37.90.1 transient protection specification. The 1500Vrms transformer isolation barrier eliminates ground loops, allows for operation at high common-mode input voltages and rejects large common-mode spikes, all of which contribute towards preserving signal integrity whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and output noise.
A regulated supply of +5V DC is required to power an 8B34 linearized 2- or 3-wire RTD input signal conditioners. Each 8B34 linearized 2- or 3-wire RTD input signal conditioner typically consumes 0.125w or 25mA of power at +5V DC. A wide range 12-28V DC24V DC DIN power supply converter or 230V AC rack mount transformer is available to power an 8B signal conditioning system.
These 8B34 linearized 2- or 3-wire RTD input signal conditioners have a wide operating temperature of -40°c to +85°c and have ATEX compliance pending. These signal conditioners are designed for installation in Class 1, Division 2 hazardous locations.
